About Us

Kong Posh Saffron — Rooted in Kashmir, Grown for the World

Kong Posh Saffron is not a trading label. It is a grower's brand — built from the fields of Pampore, Kashmir, where our family has cultivated saffron for generations. Every strand we sell is harvested from our own farms in the Karewa highlands, the only region in India where true Kashmiri saffron grows.

Where Our Saffron Comes From

The Pampore region of the Kashmir Valley — often called the Saffron Bowl of India — sits at an elevation of approximately 1,600 metres above sea level. The unique combination of Karewa soil (a fine-grained lacustrine deposit), cold winters, and dry summers creates conditions that cannot be replicated anywhere else in India. This is why Kashmiri saffron carries a distinct aroma, deep crimson colour, and high crocin content that sets it apart from saffron grown in Iran, Spain, or Afghanistan.

Our saffron is hand-harvested each October during a narrow 15–20 day window. The Crocus sativus flowers bloom before sunrise, and our team picks them by hand at dawn — the only way to preserve the delicate stigmas and their full potency. There are no machines, no shortcuts.

GI-Tagged: What It Means and Why It Matters

Kashmiri saffron holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag — a certification granted by the Government of India that legally protects the name and guarantees origin. GI tag No. 16 for Kashmir Saffron confirms that the product:

  • Is grown exclusively in the Kashmir Valley
  • Meets defined quality standards for colour strength (crocin), aroma (safranal), and bitterness (picrocrocin)
  • Has not been adulterated, dyed, or blended with inferior saffron from other origins

When you buy GI-certified Kashmiri saffron, you are buying a product with a legally verifiable identity — not a commodity. Kong Posh Saffron sources exclusively from GI-registered farms in Pampore, and we maintain documentation to support every batch we sell.

Our Heritage

Barkah Agro Farms, the company behind Kong Posh Saffron, has been operating in the Kashmir Valley for over a decade — building direct relationships with saffron growers, dry fruit orchards, and artisan producers across the region. We began as a local supplier to trade partners and have since expanded to serve customers across India and internationally, without changing how we source or what we stand for.

Our product range — Kashmiri saffron, premium dry fruits, Shilajit, attars, rose water, and skincare — reflects the full breadth of Kashmir's natural bounty. Each product is selected with the same standard: authentic origin, traceable sourcing, and no compromise on quality.

Our Quality Commitment

  • Direct from farm: We work with growers we know by name, not through anonymous supply chains.
  • GI-certified origin: Our saffron is sourced from GI-registered farms in Pampore, Kashmir.
  • Proper storage: Saffron is stored in airtight, light-protected packaging to preserve crocin levels and shelf life.
  • No artificial colouring or adulteration: We do not blend Kashmiri saffron with lower-grade varieties. What you receive is what we harvest.
  • Transparent pricing: Premium saffron has a real cost of production. We price honestly — not cheaply — because quality cannot be faked at ₹50 per gram.

Why This Matters to You

The global saffron market is flooded with adulterated, mislabelled, and low-grade product. Studies consistently show that a significant proportion of saffron sold online fails basic quality tests. When you choose Kong Posh Saffron, you are choosing a brand that can trace every batch back to a specific farm in a specific district of Kashmir — and stand behind it.
